Description

Up to 30% of students struggle with mental health challenges, making their behavior difficult to manage in a busy classroom. Common strategies like movement breaks and sensory activities often don’t fully address students' needs during moments of distress. Additionally, efforts to regulate a distressed student can be time-consuming and may not lead to lasting calm.

In this workshop, Dr. Minahan will offer a trauma-informed approach to prevent dysregulation, help students stay regulated during emotional moments, and support them in recovering from distress more quickly.

Learning Objectives:

Participants will be able to...

1. Identify why common interventions may not always work for students with anxiety-related behavior

2. Enumerate strategies to promote emotional regulation in students

3. Participants will be able to enumerate strategies to support students when dysregulated
