The OG Academic Math Training Course for Preschool and Kindergarten Instructors

 This one-day OG Academic multisensory math course was developed to provide a foundation for students beginning to comprehend the concept of numbers and math itself. Participants will engage in activities to encourage number sense and to problem solve at a basic Pre-school/Kindergarten level.

 This course is developed for Orton-Gillingham practitioners, classroom teachers, learning support teachers, early childhood educators and others who provide instruction to Preschool or Kindergarten (Pre/K) children.

 This Pre/K OG Academic Math Course includes an online introductory pre-course that will cover the following information:

* How we learn Math

* Why some students have difficulty with Math

* How OG Academic Math can be successful for children learning math for the first time

OG Academic Math Pre/K Course Supply List

 

Participants are required to bring standard classroom supplies: lined and plain paper, scissors, glue, and pen, pencil, eraser as well as pencil crayons or wax crayons.

One deck of white index cards (lined or unlined) in the size of your choice:

  • large for primary grades:  6” X 4” or 8” X 5”
  • smaller for your personal samples:  6” X 4” or 3” X 5”

Participants will be making sample cards for future use, so the size is only important if participants are beginning instruction with the student immediately.

A dry erase whiteboard (25cm X 30 cm or 10” X 12” approximately) or bring the size that is available for you with a few black dry erasable markers (preferably low odor).

Math manipulatives will be on hand for your in-class use and practice during the course.

The Multisensory Math Kit includes:

The top tray of blocks contains nine of each unit bar from 1 to 9, plus 10 ten-bars and one hundred-square is the basic set of the math approach and

The Bottom Tray of blocks has 21 units, three of each unit bar from 1 to 5, plus 30 ten-bars, 4 hundred-squares, and 5 x2's.

This kit is versatile in its use with one-to-one and group instruction.
