COTA runs three conferences a year. One during the last week in August for three days. This will usually be on the Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday of the last week in August. The next conference runs on the same day as the Provincial PSA Day.
That for the purpose of a province-wide PSA day, the BCTF supports the third Friday in October as the day on which all districts hold a professional day, except in years in which Thanksgiving Monday falls in the same week, in which case the fourth Friday would be the designated day.
The third conference is in February. It is usually on the Friday of the Family Day weekend.
- The school board approves the school calendar anually. The above dates are not firm until passed by the school board.
- The Summer and October conferences are organized by the COTA Pro-D Committee and/or the Conference Planning Committee. The February Conference is organized by the Professional Development Chairpersons from the Local Teacher Unions in the Okanagan Zone.
- Applications to present are located at https://www.mycota.ca/conferences/apply.html
- On professional development days, teachers have two choices to fullfill their professional development obligations. They can fill out an online self-directed pd application located within the member's area on mycota.ca., or, attend the COTA Conference. Attending any other conference does not meet the pro-d requirements unless a self-directed pd application is submitted.
