BC Teachers of English Language Arts Virtual Conference Oct. 23rd, 2020

Sep 29, 2020 jjamison

 Hello BCTELA members,

We hope the start of the year with your students has been as smooth as possible. It is the time to nurture connections and community. This is exactly what our BCTELA conferences have come to represent to our members - connection and community. I am excited to tell you that our conference committee has been working hard to move our conference online, and promises the same feeling of coming together with like-minded ELA teachers to inspire you that you have come to know and love. For those of you in the beautiful far corners of our province, we hope this virtual format offers you an opportunity to join us this year, maybe for the first time!

The theme of our 2020 conference is: Engage to Empower: Honouring Students as Creators, Thinkers, and Communicators. Starting us off will be keynote speaker, Kelly Gallagher, author of BCTELA summer book club book, 180 Days: Two Teachers and the Quest to Engage and Empower Adolescents.

Following Kelly's keynote will be a selection of morning and afternoon break-out sessions by long-time BCTELA friends, Leyton Schnellert, Faye Brownlie, Shelley Moore, and Jo Chrona, as well as sessions by your ELA colleagues from around the province. It promises to be an engaging and inspiring day from the comfort of your favourite chair,

Following the conference, we will hold our Annual General Meeting via Zoom, and any BCTELA member is welcome to join us. Consider joining our executive!
